Kaleigh Quinn
A F/T cohort of ESL TCP students. Kaleigh at the right.
Kaleigh began working in the field of EAL as a volunteer during her first year of university. After volunteering for 2 years with the English Language Centre at the U of M, with the Immigrant (then International) Centre, and for 2 months in a small school in Guatemala, Kaleigh decided to take her certification to teach ESL. After completing this certification, she spent 2 years teaching abroad at several schools in South Korea, and travelling throughout Asia. She shares that “although teaching and living abroad is challenging, it can be so rewarding! It really helps to understand our students’ perspective as language learners settling in a new country, which is a huge piece of the puzzle as language teachers!”
Since returning from Korea, Kaleigh taught (and continues to teach) in the English for Specific Purposes Program in the evenings at The University of Winnipeg, and completed her Bachelor of Education from The University of Manitoba. Four years ago, she began working with the ESL Teacher Certificate Program as an instructor, and then shortly thereafter as the program coordinator. While working in this position, she has presented at numerous conferences in Manitoba and Canada, including TEAM, TEAL, TESL Ontario, and the ALT Conference. She is currently completing her Masters of Education in Adult and Post Ssecondary Education from The University of Manitoba.
