Description: The Winnipeg School Division Adult EAL (English as an Additional Language) program requires volunteers to help adult newcomers who are learning English. Volunteers assist the classroom teacher and help in a variety of ways. Volunteers work under the direction of the classroom teacher. Volunteers are needed mornings, afternoons and evenings at various locations.

Title: EAL E-tutor
Description of Duties Interact weekly with English Online EAL Learners to assist in the acquisition of English language skills; Identify with the learners their language learning focus (i.e. speaking, listening, reading, and writing) and plan the topics/themes to be used to facilitate learning; Help orient learners to using the Online Learning Platform, accessing learning content and being self-directed; Communicate with the English Online Inc. e-facilitators regarding the learner’s progress and/or challenges.

Description of Duties As a Language Partner with the University of Winnipeg you will spend an hour a week with an EAL (English as an Additional Language) student. The purpose of this program is to give EAL students an opportunity to practice English outside of the classroom and to learn more about the Canadian way of life. Some volunteers spend an hour with their partner socializing at a cafe, going for a walk, partaking in a local festival, but mainly a language partner is there to help with the students learning of the English language and Canadian culture.

Skills Required A language partner volunteer must be fluent in English and flexible to meet with a student once a week for an hour (you and your language partner decide on the time and place to meet).
Skills Gained Volunteers see this is a great opportunity if they want to gain experience for future careers in teaching, international relations or tourism. A reference letter from the University of Winnipeg will be provided for all volunteers who have met with their Language Partner for a minimum of 12 hours during one term (approx. 3 months). This is an ongoing opportunity and you can have more than one Language Partner at a time if you so choose (different meeting times). Skills Required We need patient Canadian individuals who can assist the EAL student in speaking conversational English. The individual would correct the student\'s oral English and offer guidance on developing their oral skills.
